On Saturday evening, Hebrew media reported that Israeli President Isaac Herzog secretly met last week with Jordan's King Abdullah II at his palace in the capital, Amman.
The Israeli "i24" channel reported that the meeting, which was allowed to be revealed this evening, was held in coordination with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
She explained that Herzog arrived in Amman at the invitation of the King of Jordan on board an Israeli Air Force helicopter, and indicated that the preparatory meeting between them discussed "important strategic issues at the bilateral and regional levels."
Herzog said of the meeting with King Abdullah: "Jordan is a very important country, I have great respect for King Abdullah, he is a great leader and a very important regional player in the region, he met recently with very important leaders including President Joe Biden, President Vladimir Putin, President Abdel Fattah Sisi and Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas).
"During our meeting, we discussed several important matters, including the agricultural import agreement, energy issues and solutions to the climate crisis that can be strengthened together," he added.
The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that the two sides "expressed a desire to move forward for talks."
This comes in light of the significant improvement in relations between the two countries, following a crisis in relations during the era of former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the newspaper.
The Jordanian Royal Court has not commented on the Israeli statement so far.
