Aregawi and Taye break the world record for the 5,000m in Barcelona

Ethiopian duo Beriho Aregawi and Egegayehu Taye finished off the year in style by breaking the men's and women's 5,000m world record in Barcelona, on Friday.
The 20-year-old Arigawi came close to breaking the world record set by Joshua Cheptegei in Lille last month, but he did it on Friday, clocking 12 minutes and 49 seconds to break two seconds from the previous record set by the Ugandan sprinter.
The men and women set off at the same time, allowing the 21-year-old sprinter Taye to use the male runners to set the pace.
Taye clocked 14 minutes and 19 seconds, which is about half a minute less than the mixed race record, to overtake Sweden's Merav Bahta, who finished a second in 15:04.
