Washington:The US asked its citizens to exercise "more caution" while traveling to India in view of "crime and terrorism" and advised them not to travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The US State Department has reduced the India travel advisory level to two in a new travel advisory released on Friday. The travel counseling scale has levels from one to four.
White is the safest place to travel in American Travel Advisory. At the same time, the yellow level 2 advises Americans to be more careful. Travel advisory for India has been mostly level 2 and some times level 3. It was placed in the Level 4 category in April 2021 on top of the COVID-19 crisis. In India's neighborhood, Afghanistan and Myanmar are ranked at the highest level 4, while Pakistan and China are ranked at level 3. Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka are in Level 2 along with India while Bhutan is in Level 1, with the US urging its citizens to take normal precautions while traveling.
