A Pakistani court releases Imran Khan on bail in two new cases A Pakistani court on Tuesday announced the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on bail for a week, on the background of two new cases in which Khan faces charges of "terrorism". A Pakistani court on Tuesday released former Prime Minister Imran Khan on bail for a week, on the background of two new cases in which Khan faces charges of "terrorism". The Associated Press quoted unnamed officials as saying that the verdict "gave the ousted prime minister and opposition leader another term without arrest." One of the terrorism-related cases involved Khan verbally threatening a female judge during a demonstration he attended last year. As for the second case, it came against the background of the accusation of police in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, last Sunday, Khan and 17 of his assistants and dozens of his supporters with "terrorism" and several other crimes, after a clash between Imran's supporters and security forces in Islamabad on Saturday. Khan and his aides and supporters were accused of committing "terrorist" practices, obstructing policemen in the performance of their duties, assaulting police, injuring officers and endangering their lives. Since his overthrow in a vote of no confidence in parliament last April, Khan, 70, has been involved in a series of legal cases against him, including terrorism and graft, during his term in office. The confrontation between Khan and the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, has witnessed increasing violence in recent days. Khan denies all charges against him, saying he is a "victim" of the Sharif government. And last Monday, two hearings were held in an Islamabad court in the framework of two cases in which Khan is being tried for selling gifts he received from foreign statesmen during his prime ministership and threatening a female judge in August 2022. It is noteworthy that the illegal gain case was postponed until later in March.
