This came in a speech he delivered, on Saturday, during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Endowment for the "Propagation of Science" (İlim Yayma Cemiyeti), in Istanbul.  Erdogan expressed his thanks to those in charge of the endowment, for their charitable work that extended for many years.  The Turkish president stressed the need to continue solidarity with the victims of the devastating earthquakes that struck the south of his country, at dawn on the sixth of last February, especially during the month of Ramadan.   In another context, Erdogan stressed their intention to turn the current centenary into "Turkey's century," indicating that they are doing their utmost to achieve this.  He explained that, in this context, they agreed with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, to "work together to complete the development road project aimed at building a land transport corridor and a railway extending from Basra to the Turkish border."  Erdogan described the aforementioned project as a step to link Turkey to the Arab Gulf region again.  And he continued, "We will continue, during the coming days, to spread new tidings to our people."  Last week, Erdogan announced that he had agreed with the Iraqi prime minister, who was a guest in Ankara, to assign the relevant ministers to work on realizing the development road project that extends from Basra to Turkey.  In a press conference following his meeting with Al-Sudani, Erdogan added, "This project will enhance regional cooperation, develop our trade, and strengthen our human relations. We are aware that other brotherly countries are also interested in this project. I am confident that with their participation, we will be able to transform the development road project into the new Silk Road." for our region."
