President of Brazil: NATO should not be near Russia's borders

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that NATO should not be near Russia's borders.

The President of Brazil noted that this issue could become one of the items of peace talks on the situation in Ukraine.

And he added during a press interview on Thursday: "It is not permissible for NATO to have the possibility of deploying its forces on the borders with Russia."

The Brazilian president stressed the need for all parties to the confrontation to make specific concessions. He said, "There may not even be a need to discuss the issue of Crimea, but the issue with other regions must be reconsidered. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, cannot hope to get everything he wants and wishes."

Earlier, President Lula da Silva stressed that Russia is the guarantor of long-term peace throughout the world.

The President of Brazil put forward an initiative to develop a new international formula to create an opportunity for dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, and stressed his readiness, if necessary, to mediate direct negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart.
