The Criminal Court of the Algerian Judicial Council sought a 10-year prison sentence against a fifty-year-old man who was involved in the smuggling of a woman of Tunisian nationality, who was previously suspected of communicating with a terrorist group.
The accused appeared before the Criminal Court to face the felony charge of “praising terrorist groups” and the misdemeanor of “carrying a prohibited weapon of the fifth class without a licence,” after he was arrested by Algerian security forces on the border with Tunisia, red-handed in trying to smuggle a woman of Tunisian nationality who works for a terrorist group. After his investigation, it became clear that the operation came within the framework of implementing an agreement he concluded with a person with whom he had a long-standing work and friendship relationship.
On Sunday, the Algerian newspaper Al-Shorouk reported from the referral decision on the case that the two parties agreed on a sum of money in exchange for the smuggling of the woman who was being investigated by the Algerian and Tunisian authorities for her involvement in a terrorist case.
She explained that the Algerian authorities had contacted their Tunisian counterpart earlier regarding the identity of the Tunisian citizen, who turned out to be the wife of a terrorist and working for his group.
