The first humanitarian aid ship heads to Gaza via the sea corridor

The first ship carrying aid through the sea corridor to the Gaza Strip sailed from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus on Tuesday morning, according to Agence France-Presse, citing a non-governmental organization supervising the operation.

Laura Lanuza, spokeswoman for the "Open Arms" organization, said that the organization's ship, carrying 200 tons of aid, set off at approximately 06:50 a.m. GMT on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, the European Commission, the UAE, the United States, and Cyprus issued a joint statement regarding activating a sea corridor to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides explained on Friday that the Cyprus sea corridor aims to speed up the transfer of aid to the Gaza Strip and relieve pressure on land routes.
