A simple and safe way to improve vision

Researchers from the University of London Institute of Ophthalmology announced that in order to improve vision, you should look at deep red light for three minutes in the morning, once a week.

It is noteworthy that the scientific team headed by Professor Glenn Jeffrey proved, in a previous study, that exposing the retina for three minutes to deep red light (long-wave red light) activates the mitochondria (energy substations) of the photoreceptor cells (light-sensitive neurons in the retina and rods). and cones), i.e. this recharging process helps restore vision that naturally deteriorates with age.

The scientific team in the new study decided to conduct experiments to determine the best time of day to expose the retina to deep red light, the number of times, and its best wavelength.

The results of experiments involving 20 healthy men and women aged 34-70 years showed that exposure to red light for three minutes with a wavelength of 670 nanometers was sufficient to improve contrast color vision (i.e. cone function).

It became clear to them that the maximum effect (improvement of vision by 17 percent) is only observed when looking at red light between eight and nine in the morning, and its lasting positive effect lasts for a week, so it does not make sense to recharge the photoreceptor mitochondria more than once a week.

Jeffrey says: “This technology is simple and completely safe, as the energy it receives from light at this wavelength is not much greater than what the eye receives from natural light.”

According to him, everyone will soon be able to improve their vision one morning a week using the device (a regular LED flashlight) like the one the scientific team used in its experiments.
