Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinac revealed the health condition of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was subjected to an assassination attempt last Wednesday, explaining that there is no longer a direct threat to his life, but his condition is still serious.

Kalinac announced, on Sunday, that Fiko, who is undergoing treatment at Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, has passed the danger stage and there is no longer any immediate danger to his life.

Kalinac, who also holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister, said in a statement quoting doctors that Fico's condition "is still serious and he needs a long time and rest to recover."

He explained that it is not planned to transfer Fico to another hospital in the near future, and that this is not currently possible.

He pointed out that the hospital will regularly announce information about the Prime Minister's health condition in the coming days.

Last Wednesday, Fico was shot several times after a government meeting in the town of Handlova in the city of Trencin.

The Slovak News Agency reported that security forces were able to arrest the perpetrator of the attack, and that Vico's health condition was "critical."

The local press reported that the perpetrator of the assassination attempt was “Juraj S.”, a left-wing Slovakian citizen, 71 years old, who carried out the attack “because he did not like the government’s policies.”
