Russia bombs Ukrainian energy facilities with dozens of missiles and drones

Today, Wednesday, Russian forces launched massive air attacks with dozens of drones and missiles, targeting the energy infrastructure in several Ukrainian regions, causing massive material losses.

Ukrainian Energy Minister, German Galoshenko, announced via the Telegram application that Russian forces were targeting energy facilities in his country.

He added that the attack targeted electricity generation and transmission facilities in the regions of Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhya, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsya.

For its part, DTEK, the largest private electricity company in Ukraine, said on Wednesday that a Russian air attack caused serious damage to equipment in three thermal power plants.

The company continued, via Telegram: “The equipment was severely damaged, Electrical engineers are currently working to repair the consequences of the attack.”

Serhiy Popko, director of the Kiev Military Administration, said via the Telegram application that all the missiles that targeted the city “were destroyed,” and added: “The attack did not result in serious damage or injuries.”

Local officials said that air defense systems also participated in repelling the Russian attack over the Lviv region, which borders Poland, a member of NATO, where several explosions occurred.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on the Telegram application that Russia used more than 50 missiles and 20 drones in the attack, and added: “The entire world has no right to give Nazism another chance.”

Moscow denies targeting civilians, but says the Ukrainian energy grid constitutes a legitimate military target.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, requiring its end to Kiev’s “renunciation” of plans to join military entities, which prompted capitals, led by Washington, to impose severe economic sanctions on Moscow.
