Biden attacks Trump: A former president is a convicted felon seeking the presidency

US President Joe Biden attacked his Republican rival and former president, Donald Trump, describing him for the first time as a "convicted criminal" and indicating that he poses a greater threat to the United States if he wins another term.

Biden said during a fundraising campaign in Greenwich, Connecticut, yesterday, Monday: “For the first time in American history, a former president, a convicted felon, is now seeking the presidency.”

Trump became the first US president to be convicted of a crime last week, when a New York jury found him guilty of forging documents to cover up his payment of a sum of money to buy a porn actress' silence about their relationship before the 2016 elections.

In his speech on Friday, Trump objected to the ruling and the legal procedures since his conviction, describing the court as “corrupt,” and accused the judge of “rigging,” indicating that he intends to appeal.

Joe Biden added: “But as disturbing as it is, what is most harmful is the comprehensive attack launched by Donald Trump on the American justice system,” adding that “it is reckless and dangerous to say that the justice system is controlled by fraud and manipulation, because Trump and his allies do not like the outcome.” .

Biden campaign officials said he has so far largely refrained from addressing Trump's conviction to avoid creating the impression that he is politicizing the judicial process.

A spokeswoman for Donald Trump's campaign said on Fox News that it was "shameful" for the Biden campaign to describe Trump as a "convicted criminal."

The 2024 presidential elections are scheduled to be held on November 5, while a poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos last week showed that 10% of Republican voters said that their vote for Trump after his conviction had become less likely.
