Violent clashes renewed in the city of El Fasher, western Sudan, between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, leaving 4 dead, while the Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced the killing of 35 children in the “Wad Al Noura massacre,” and the International Organization for Migration revealed that the number of displaced people in Sudan may exceed ten million.

Eyewitnesses reported that "violent clashes with heavy weapons took place between the army and the Rapid Support today, Friday, in the north and east of El Fasher," the capital of North Darfur state.

The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur (non-governmental) said in a statement, “Abu Shouk camp for displaced people north of El Fasher was subjected to indiscriminate bombing (the nature of which was not determined) by the Rapid Support Forces,” noting that the bombing resulted in the deaths of 4 displaced people.

Since May 10, El Fasher has witnessed sporadic clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, despite international warnings about the repercussions of the battles in that city, which is a center for humanitarian operations in all states of Darfur.

35 children killed

In a related context, on Friday, the Sudan Doctors Syndicate accused the Rapid Support Forces of killing more than 80 citizens, including 35 children, in the attack on the village of “Wad Al-Noura” in Al-Jazeera state in the center of the country two days ago.

The Sudan Doctors Syndicate (non-governmental) said in a statement: “On Wednesday, the Rapid Support Forces killed more than 80 citizens, including 35 children, in cold blood, during an attack they launched on the village of Wad Al-Noura.”

At dawn on Thursday, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, in a statement, accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing a “massacre” in Wad al-Noura, in which more than 100 people were killed, before the Sudanese Foreign Ministry later spoke about the death toll from the “massacre” rising to 180. These numbers are much higher than the figure. Reported by the Sudan Doctors Syndicate.

10 million displaced people

On the other hand, the International Organization for Migration said on Friday that the number of internally displaced people in Sudan due to the conflict may soon exceed ten million people, in the largest displacement crisis in the world.

Muhammad Rifaat, head of the organization’s mission to Sudan, said: “How much suffering and human losses must the people of Sudan suffer before the world pays attention? Isn’t ten million internally displaced people enough to push the world to take urgent action?” He pointed out that “the life of every one of the ten million displaced "It represents a severe human tragedy that requires urgent attention."

This week, the United Nations organization monitored the presence of 9.9 million internally displaced people across Sudan, and says that there were already 2.8 million internally displaced people before the war.

United Nations agencies warn that Sudan is at “imminent risk of famine” with about 18 million people suffering from extreme hunger, including 3.6 million children suffering from acute malnutrition.
