Senator Dick Durben announced the passage of the provision into law in an official account on X, welcoming the Appropriations Committee's passage of his proposed provision. He wrote:

The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved my proposal to bar US visas for Chinese officials involved in the wrongful detention of Gulshan Abbas. Gulshan Abbas should be released immediately.

Apparently, Mrs. Abbas said that this decision will play an important role in making such high-level decisions to keep the Uyghur issue alive in the current situation before the US presidential election.
