Professor Grigory Flax from the Department of Dermatology and Venereology of the Faculty of Medicine of the Russian Biotechnological University points out that hair loss is a natural phenomenon, but within certain limits.
“The normal rate of hair loss is 50-100 hairs per day. Many factors affect this process: genetics, age, hormonal disorders, stress, unbalanced nutrition, and the season. Some medications and poor quality hair care products may also have an effect,” he says.
According to him, when assessing the level of hair loss, the number of hairs that fall out during a week should be calculated. For example, about 100 hairs fall out during the day after washing the hair, and on other days not a single hair falls out. If the number of hairs that fall out during a week reaches 350 hairs, this is considered normal and there is no need to worry. However, if the number of hairs that fall out is noticeably more than this, a specialist doctor should be consulted to diagnose the cause and treat it.
