Tips to prevent kidney swelling in menstrual cup users

Jakarta - Menstrual cups or funnels for menstruation have emerged as a more environmentally friendly alternative to tampons or pads. However, improper use can cause serious problems such as hydroureteronephrosis, swelling of one or both kidneys, and the ureter."The ureter passes close to the vaginal wall on its way to the bladder. Menstrual cups are designed to suck to the edge of the vaginal wall, but if pressed too hard, the ureter can be compressed," said Dr. Sarika Pandya, consultant urologist, Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, Hyderabad, as written on the Hindustan Times page, Monday (24/2).
