Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed his support for the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the face of the intense pressure he is facing due to his pro-justice stance regarding the war in Gaza.
During his participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, held in the Turkish city of Antalya, Aboul Gheit met with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan. The discussion focused on the serious crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza, according to a statement by the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Jamal Rushdi.
Aboul Gheit commended the ICC Prosecutor's courage in the face of significant international pressure aimed at undermining the court's work, noting that Khan plays a pivotal role in enhancing the credibility of the international justice system, which has long faced accusations of bias and duplicity.
The Secretary-General stressed that Israel's attempts, supported by certain countries, to obstruct the court's efforts represent a serious threat to the rules-based international order, warning of repercussions that could extend beyond the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where crimes described by the Arab League as "massacres" are being committed.
The meeting came amid growing Arab and international calls to hold accountable those responsible for violations in Gaza. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for prominent Israeli figures in November 2024. The meeting is part of the Arab League's efforts to support international legal action against crimes committed in the Palestinian territories.
The Antalya Diplomacy Forum, launched in 2021 in Türkiye, is an international platform aimed at fostering dialogue between political leaders, diplomats, and decision-makers on global issues, such as conflicts, climate change, and international security.
The forum annually brings together prominent figures from across continents and provides a space for discussing diplomatic solutions to complex crises. In its 2025 edition, the forum will focus on Middle Eastern issues, including the situation in Gaza, making Aboul Gheit and Khan's presence prominent.
Aboul Gheit's participation in the Antalya Forum is an extension of the Arab League's policy of supporting the Palestinian cause, which has repeatedly condemned Israeli violations and called for those responsible to be held accountable. His stance in support of the ICC Prosecutor reflects a unified Arab position that views the court as an essential tool for achieving justice amid escalating crimes in Gaza.
