Doctor: Genetic factors play a major role in autism



Pediatrician dr. Amanda Soebadi, Sp.A, Subsp.Neuro.(K), M.Med said genetic factors play an important role in causing children to experience autism.

"This genetic factor does indeed play an important role in the relative risk of autism (level three or severe autism)," said the pediatrician who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia in a webinar monitored from Jakarta, Tuesday.

He explained that siblings of a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a risk 9 times greater than a child with a general condition of developing autism.
