BTL, a medical device development company, has unveiled a new device that helps improve mental health and alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
During a preview of the device, American physician Paul Frank said that Exomind offers a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment designed to improve mental and emotional health. It relies on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) technology, which has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to treat depression and, in Canada, has also received the green light to help treat anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and problems associated with compulsive eating.
According to Dr. Frank, this technique will be of particular importance for people suffering from chronic stress and anxiety, as well as for those who want to reduce their reliance on antidepressants.
The doctor explained that the device has a mechanical arm equipped with electromagnetic coils, through which a targeted magnetic pulse is directed to a specific area of the brain for 30 minutes. This procedure improves cognitive function and reduces anxiety. The effect is evident after three sessions, but for lasting results, six sessions are recommended.
