This came after armed clashes erupted in the Jaramana neighborhood, south of the capital, Damascus, following what the Interior Ministry described as "insults and incitement."
This came in a joint statement in which they said: “The Sheikhdom of the Druze Unitarian Community extends to its brothers in God its sincere love, appreciation, and faith, affirming that its national and religious stance throughout history has never been anything but side by side with the people of one nation, and its motto is ‘Religion is for God, and the nation is for all.’”
The statement affirmed that the Sheikhdom of the Mind "is confident that Syria, with the unity of its people and its lands, is strong and resistant to conspiracies, and is a nation of national, social, religious, and humanitarian constants." It also considered that "the discordant voices that have emerged to attack the Noble Messenger have spread their seditious poison."
The statement explained that these voices are "paid by the enemies of the homeland and religion with the aim of dividing, fragmenting, and dismantling the unified Syrian national structure (...)", adding that "anyone who makes statements or insults religious symbols will bear the severe penalty and represents himself, and cannot represent the opinion of the group of members of the Ma'roufi (Druze) sect."
The statement added: "Our country is facing a major sedition, and sedition is dormant. May God curse whoever awakens it. In the face of the voices of sedition and discord, we must resort to the language of faith and reason, and whatever unites us to confront the coming regional and international repercussions."
He stressed that "the nation needs its people and its sons, and shame and damnation be upon those who dare to tamper with our national religious unity, including the corrupt and apostate people who are tampering with killing, destruction and strife."
The statement comes following intermittent clashes between armed groups in the Jaramana neighborhood, south of the capital, Damascus. The Syrian Interior Ministry said the clashes occurred "against the backdrop of the spread of an audio clip insulting the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the subsequent incitement and hate speech on social media."
The ministry indicated in a previous statement that the clashes "resulted in deaths and injuries (it did not specify the number), including members of the security forces deployed in the area," and noted that "a security cordon was imposed around the area to prevent any similar incidents from recurring."
In its statement, the Syrian Interior Ministry affirmed its commitment to "prosecuting those involved and holding them accountable in accordance with the law, while continuing investigations to uncover the identity of the person behind the audio clip insulting our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him." The ministry also emphasized that it will not tolerate leniency in "bringing to justice anyone who has contributed to inciting chaos and undermining stability."
Earlier on Tuesday, Druze groups reportedly opened fire on government security forces with heavy weapons in the Jaramana neighborhood, located about 8 kilometers from central Damascus, killing two people and wounding eight others.
On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions completed their control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control, including 24 years during which Bashar al-Assad held the presidency (2000-2024).
