Minister of Culture opens EDIT exhibition, discusses women's struggles

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon officially opened the exhibition "SUNTING: Traces of Indonesian Women as Drivers of Change" at the National Museum of Indonesia.

According to him, the opening of the exhibition coincided with Kartini Day, which is not only a commemoration of women's struggle, but also the nation's struggle.

"Progress in justice, equal education. And of course realizing extraordinary justice, and since ancient times, women in the archipelago have not been complementary, but the main drivers of change," said Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, at the opening of the exhibition, in Central.

She said the exhibition was inspired by the history of Indonesian women's literacy, namely Sunting Melayu, which was the first women's newspaper published by Rohana Kudus, the first female journalist and editor-in-chief of Indonesia in 1912.

Showcasing various documents and archives, installation artworks and various video interviews, the aim is not only to reintroduce historical narratives, but also to open up space for discussion.

"Like a hairdresser who beautifies and styles hair, Indonesian women have beautified and styled the journey of this nation's history with their intelligence, determination, and courage, strengthening the challenges of social values, fighting for human rights, and moving the nation towards just change," he said.
