Quarantine of Riau Islands ensures cattle from Natuna are free from FMD

Natuna, Riau Islands - The Riau Islands Quarantine Office ensures that cattle sent between regions in the local province, namely from Natuna Regency to Tanjungpinang City, are free from foot and mouth disease (FMD).

Riau Islands Quarantine Service Unit official, Iwan Setiawan, confirmed from Batam, Thursday, saying that on Thursday (3/4) he had inspected 25 cows that would be taken to Tanjungpinang City.

"From the test results, the cows were declared negative for FMD, or in other words, safe and ready to sail to Tanjungpinang," he said.

He said that the 25 cows sent to Tanjungpinang had undergone blood tests at an accredited laboratory.

In addition, the cows are also equipped with additional documents in the form of a Vaccination Certificate, Veterinary Certificate, Animal Health Examination Certificate, and Test Result Certificate.

"Through collaboration between the Natuna Regency Food Security and Agriculture Service and the Riau Islands Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine, we continue to ensure that Natuna cattle remain the cattle barn of the Riau Islands," he said.

He emphasized that Natuna Regency is a green zone for PMK for cattle, goats, and others.

"This is proven by a certificate stating that the cattle in Natuna are still free from FMD, and in accordance with the circular regarding the spread of FMD," he said.

He also explained that the traffic of FMD-Vulnerable Animals (HRP) refers to the Circular of the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency Number 620 of 2025 concerning Alertness to the Spread of Foot and Mouth Disease.

Breeders of cattle, goats, and other animals are expected to comply with these regulations and always maintain the health of their animals and the cleanliness of their pens.

His advice is for the cattle to receive sufficient and appropriate feed, then routinely clean the pen and environment, and maintain the health of the owner or livestock keeper so that there is no outbreak that can be transmitted to humans.
