US prepares new import tariff policy for smartphones and laptops

The United States (US) government is preparing import tariffs for semiconductor products, where this policy will impact a number of electronic devices including smartphones and laptops.

As reported by Engadget on Monday, US Customs and Border Protection previously released a list of products exempted from the reciprocal tariffs imposed by Trump, including smartphones, computers, memory chips, and other electronic devices and components.

However, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the move does not mean the products will be completely exempt from tariffs, but that they will be placed in a separate category.
