The Israeli occupation authorities' decision to close six UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem, which serve approximately 800 students, comes into effect today, Thursday.
The Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement received by Anadolu Agency: "Israeli occupation forces stormed UNRWA schools in the Shuafat camp, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, this Thursday morning, as the decision to close them came into effect."
She added that the occupation police "posted military orders requiring the evacuation and closure of schools, and demanded that students and teaching staff leave the area immediately."
In early April, the Israeli occupation authorities issued closure orders to UNRWA schools, effective May 8, citing the "lack of legal permits." Three schools are located in the Shuafat refugee camp, while the others are located in the villages of Wadi al-Joz, Silwan, and Tyre.
