"A real tsunami": Israeli fears of international isolation after suspending agreements and threatening sanctions over Gaza

In a detailed report, the newspaper addressed the measures taken internationally against Israel in light of its ongoing war on Gaza, most notably Britain's suspension of negotiations on a free trade agreement, a move the report warned "could have serious economic repercussions."

The Foreign Ministry source added: "Since October 2023, the world has seen only dead Palestinian children and destroyed homes on television screens, and it's fed up with it. Israel offers no solution, no vision for the day after, no hope—only death and destruction."

He warned, "The silent boycott has existed before, but it will only get worse. This situation should not be underestimated, and no one will want to be associated with Israel."

According to the newspaper, 592 days after the start of the war in Gaza, Israel has reached a new low in its international standing, with three of its most prominent allies in the world (Britain, France, and Canada) threatening sanctions on Monday evening if the war in Gaza continues.

She added: "Less than 24 hours later, Britain announced the cancellation of negotiations on a future free trade agreement with Israel, the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to London, Tzipi Hotovely, for a reprimand, and the imposition of sanctions on a number of settlers."

The newspaper also addressed the US position on Israel, with its insistence on continuing its war of extermination. It revealed that White House sources expressed "frustration with the Israeli government," noting that "Israel is the only party not working to advance a comprehensive deal."

Earlier Tuesday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the return of senior members of his country's negotiating delegation to the Qatari capital, Doha, while retaining technical staff, after insisting on continuing the war on Gaza.

The newspaper emphasized that the statements and steps currently being taken against Israel could also have "serious economic repercussions," explaining that "Britain, for example, is one of Israel's most important trading partners, with trade volume amounting to approximately nine billion pounds sterling, making it Israel's fourth-largest trading partner."

In this context, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy criticized Israel's policies on Tuesday, saying that through its rhetoric and actions, it is "isolating itself from its friends and the world," stressing that its current policies "weaken its image" in the eyes of the international community.

In a speech before the British House of Commons on developments in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, Lammy criticized the fact that only 10 aid trucks were allowed into the besieged Gaza Strip.

"This is a horrific situation. Civilians in Gaza are facing hunger, displacement, and psychological trauma. Amidst the bombing, displacement, and suffering, hopes for an end to this war have once again been dashed," he said.

He also expressed his country's support for the mediation efforts of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, noting the growing diplomatic stalemate between the two sides. He affirmed his country's support for the two-state solution as a means to achieving lasting peace, while simultaneously criticizing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including increased settlement activity and escalating government-backed settler violence.

He pointed out that Britain had previously imposed sanctions on settlers who plunder Palestinian land, and that it intends to impose new sanctions in the same context.

In 2019, Israel and the UK signed a new, separate trade agreement to ensure continued duty-free access to most goods between the two sides after Brexit, while maintaining the terms of the existing agreement with the European Union.

On Tuesday evening, French Prime Minister François Bayrou announced that France, Britain, and Canada had decided to jointly recognize a Palestinian state, in protest against the events in Gaza. Yedioth Ahronoth described this announcement as the strongest Western stance against Israel to date, arguing that it isolates it internationally in an unprecedented manner.

The newspaper considered that "one of the most worrying aspects regarding Israel's position on the international stage is the American reaction to recent developments," and stated, "The United States, which has repeatedly stood by Israel and strongly defended it, is now silent."

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has continued a widespread war of extermination against the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip, including killing, destruction, starvation, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

This US-backed genocide left more than 175,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, more than 11,000 missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced.
