Carlos Alcaraz defeated Karen Khachanov 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 on Tuesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.
"It feels great to win against someone as tough as Khachanov," Alcaraz said, as reported by ATP. "Physically I struggled a little bit."
Alcaraz lost break leads in the second and third sets, including four straight games of 6-3, 3-2, but recovered in time.
"I just fought, and I'm really happy about that," Alcaraz said.
His two-hour, 29-minute win took Alcaraz into the Rome quarter-finals for the first time.
With a 26-5 record for the 2025 season, including 12-1 on clay, Alcaraz will face fifth seed Jack Draper in the semifinals, who beat Corentin Moutet 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Alcaraz leads the head-to-head between the two 3-2, but Draper won their last meeting in March at Indian Wells.
