In this context, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that France would respond "immediately," "firmly," and "proportionately" to Algeria's "incomprehensible" decision.

No official statement has yet been issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but the Algerian Press Agency reported that the country's authorities had requested "the Chargé d'Affaires of the French Embassy in Algeria... the immediate deportation of all French employees who were appointed under conditions that contravene established procedures."

The agency noted that "this recall follows the recording of serious and repeated violations by the French side, which included a blatant failure to comply with established and customary procedures for appointing employees within French diplomatic and consular missions accredited to Algeria."

The agency explained that "recently, competent authorities have observed the appointment of at least fifteen French employees to carry out diplomatic or consular duties on Algerian soil, without the necessary procedures being met, including prior official notification or accreditation requests, as required by relevant international norms and agreements."

Algerian authorities also reported that Paris had delayed the accreditation process for two Algerian consuls general appointed to Paris and Marseille, along with seven other consuls, who have been awaiting accreditation for more than five months.

In mid-April, Algerian authorities declared twelve French Interior Ministry employees persona non grata and ordered them to leave Algeria within 48 hours. Algeria justified its decision at the time as a response to France's arrest and subsequent detention of an Algerian consular employee.

France then responded by expelling 12 Algerian consular staff and recalling the French ambassador to Algeria, Stéphane Romatet, for consultations.

On Sunday, the French Foreign Minister confirmed that relations between Paris and Algeria remain "completely frozen" since Algeria expelled twelve employees in mid-April, and France responded with similar .
