The occupation army said in a statement on Monday that "Sergeant Yosef Yehuda Hirak (22 years old) from the Harasha settlement (near Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank) was killed in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip."
He explained that the slain soldier was a "fighter in the 601st Engineering Battalion, affiliated with the 401st Iron Brigade."
The army did not provide further details about the battle in which the soldier was killed.
For its part, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that two other soldiers sustained minor injuries in the same incident, "which is still under investigation and whose details have not yet been published."
With the killing of the Israeli soldier, the death toll among the Israeli army since the beginning of the war of extermination has risen to 857, including 415 since the start of the ground assault on Gaza on October 27, 2023.
The number of soldiers wounded since the beginning of the genocide has reached 5,891, including 2,667 since the start of the ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, according to data published on the army's website.
