Mansour explained, in an interview with the official Voice of Palestine radio, that "the Security Council cannot remain silent in the face of the systematic starvation policy practiced by the occupying state against civilians in the Gaza Strip."
He added that the council will hold the session to "monitor the situation in Gaza, pressure for a ceasefire, and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid."
He stressed the need to intensify diplomatic and legal efforts with all relevant international political and legal institutions on this issue.
He noted that two preparatory meetings will also be held at the ministerial level, on May 23 in New York and on May 25 in Spain, in preparation for the international conference on implementing the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli).
He explained that the goal of the two meetings is to "ensure the success of the international conference scheduled to be held next June in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France," according to the radio.
The conference is scheduled to be held with the aim of resolving the Palestinian issue and implementing the two-state solution, under the joint sponsorship of France and Saudi Arabia, according to a previous statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on April 9, during his visit to Egypt, that the conference would be held in partnership with Saudi Arabia.
On April 10, Macron stated that his country "may recognize the State of Palestine in the coming months," in an interview with France 5 following his visit to Egypt. He indicated that this recognition "may take place during the international conference next June."
These actions come at a time when Israel, with full US support, has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths and injuries of more than 170,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, and more than 11,000 missing.
In parallel with the aggression in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers continue to escalate their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of more than 960 Palestinians, the injury of approximately 7,000, and the arrest of approximately 16,400, according to Palestinian data.
