Surgeons remind diabetes mellitus (DM) sufferers to be more vigilant if they experience wounds on their feet that do not heal.
This condition can be a sign of a serious complication known as diabetic foot . This complication can lead to severe infection, gangrene, and even amputation if not treated properly.
Vascular surgeon from Bethsaida Hospital, Dr. Sendi Kurnia Tantinius, Sp.B, Subsp.BVE(K) explained that diabetic foot occurs due to a combination of several main factors, namely diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage), impaired blood flow, infection, and excessive pressure on the feet.
According to Dr. Sendi, diabetic foot occurs due to a combination of neuropathy, impaired blood flow, and infection.
