Be aware of indications of kidney disorders in children

Head of the Nephrology Coordination Unit of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) DR. Dr. Eka Laksmi Hidayati, Sp.A, Subsp.Nefro(K) said that recurring fevers that are not accompanied by coughs and colds could indicate kidney disorders in children.

"The symptoms are usually from urinary tract infection symptoms, so children who often have recurring fevers, fevers without coughs and colds which are generally a package of influenza, we must conduct a urine test to find out whether they have a urinary tract infection," Eka told ANTARA on Saturday.

He added that symptoms of urinary tract infections usually appear suddenly in children.

If symptoms of urinary tract infection appear in toddlers, he said, an ultrasound examination needs to be carried out to determine the possibility of kidney stones.
