China issued an action plan to accelerate the development of digital and intelligent supply chains as part of a broader effort to modernize them.
The action plan, jointly issued by China's Ministry of Commerce and seven other departments, encourages the use of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain to accelerate the digitalization, intelligence and visualization of the supply chain.
The plan aims to improve the supply chain in the agricultural sector, develop a smart manufacturing supply chain, strengthen supply chain integration in the wholesale sector, optimize the retail supply chain, and reduce logistics costs, according to the ministry.
The plan comes as China intensifies efforts to improve systems to strengthen the resilience and security of industries and supply chains, promote the full integration of the real economy and the digital economy, and encourage enterprises to apply digital and intelligent technologies to transform and upgrade traditional industries.
The plan aims to create replicable models for the development of digital and intelligent supply chains, with deeply integrated, intelligent and autonomous systems across key industries and fields in China by 2030.
In addition, the plan also targets the development of around 100 leading national companies in the digital and intelligent supply chain sector by 2030.
