Indonesia has once again made history in the world basketball scene after being officially appointed as the host of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2028 and the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2029, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced during a special visit to Jakarta this week.
This appointment marks the first time in history that the prestigious tournament edition has been held in the Asian region, bringing new enthusiasm to basketball lovers in the country.
This decision is a continuation of Indonesia's success as one of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The FIBA delegation led by FIBA Treasurer Ingo Weiss and FIBA COO Patrick Mariller made the announcement after meeting with the Chairman of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Budi Djiwandono, Secretary General of Perbasi Nirmala Dewi, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, FIBA Central Board Member and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, and Secretary General of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Wijaya Noeradi.
