Malaysia's economy grew 4.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025 driven by steady expansion of domestic demand.

Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said in Kuala Lumpur on Friday that economic growth was influenced by maintained household spending amid positive labor market conditions and income-related policies, including revisions to the minimum wage and civil servant salaries.

In addition, economic growth is also influenced by stable expansion in investment activities supported by the realization of new and ongoing projects.

Meanwhile, from the external sector, Malaysia's economic growth slowed mainly due to lower mining exports. The slowdown in mining exports was offset by stronger electricity and electronics exports, as well as tourism.
