Microsoft announced revenue of US$70.1 billion or around Rp1.16 quadrillion and net profit of US$25.8 billion (Rp427.6 trillion) in the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
The figures bring the software company's revenue up 13 percent, and net income up 18 percent, The Verge reported Thursday.
The cloud business was the main driver of the achievement, with Microsoft Cloud's overall revenue reaching US$42.4 billion (Rp702.7 trillion), up 20 percent. However, the revenue does not include the results of AI products so it is not yet known how much Microsoft's AI business will grow.
Microsoft also reported three percent year-over-year growth in Windows OEM and device revenue. Businesses and consumers upgraded PCs and laptops ahead of the Windows 10 end of life in October, but there has been no major increase in Windows OEM revenue.
Microsoft said Windows OEM growth was due in part to “inventory levels remaining elevated due to tariff uncertainty.” They are now combining Surface revenue with Windows OEM revenue so it is no longer clear how the Surface line is performing.
The company didn’t launch any new consumer Surface devices last quarter, but it did start selling Intel-powered versions of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 in February for businesses. Microsoft is also rumored to be launching smaller versions of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop soon.
In the previous quarter, Microsoft predicted Xbox revenue would decline. The decline occurred by 6 percent this quarter when Microsoft had launched a number of games in the Game Pass program.
Overall Microsoft gaming revenue rose 5 percent. Xbox content and services, including Game Pass, rose 8 percent. Microsoft has been pushing its strategy for the past year to bring more games that were previously exclusive to Xbox to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
