Jannik Sinner successfully passed a tough test from Arthur Rinderknech when he started his journey at the major clay court tournament at Roland Garros.
Sinner extended his Grand Slam winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 victory against the home favourite who was cheered on by a packed Court Philippe-Chatrier crowd.
In contrast, the Italian quickly returned to winning ways after Carlos Alcaraz ended his 26-match winning streak in the Rome final.
"First round matches, it's never easy, so I'm really happy with the way I handled the situation, especially in the third set," Sinner said in his on-court interview, as broadcast by ATP.
"To win in straight sets means a lot to me. He and I have played a few times before, so we know each other. He's a great player."
