Sri Mulyani asks new Director General of Taxes to increase state revenue

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati gave a message to the new Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto to find solutions to increase state revenue through taxation.

He asked the Director General of Taxes to actively collaborate in increasing state revenue as directed by President Prabowo Subianto.

"We already understand the expectations of the country's leaders, state revenues must increase, the tax ratio must increase, services to taxpayers must improve, certainty regarding taxation must also increase, transparency and governance must continue to be improved," said Sri Mulyani at the inauguration of echelon I officials of the Ministry of Finance.

In addition to seeking solutions to increase state revenue, the Minister of Finance also asked Bimo to be able to raise the tax ratio. President Prabowo set a target ratio of 23 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2029.

Furthermore, Sri Mulyani explained that one of the government's challenges in achieving the tax ratio target is because the level of tax compliance of the community and tax actors is still relatively low.

"The public wants tax revenues to increase, but the public and the business world are usually very reluctant to pay taxes," he explained.

The state treasurer said that the phenomenon of business actors and the public's hesitation to pay taxes is contrary to the government's efforts and the public's desire to increase tax revenues.

Therefore, according to him, this phenomenon must be anticipated seriously.

"This is a contradiction that must continue to be managed, every rupiah we collect is not only a state revenue, but it is able to answer structural challenges," he added.
