These appointments come as part of a restructuring process for the security and military institutions being carried out by the new Syrian administration, following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad's regime (2000-2024).
According to a series of posts on the ministry's X account, Brigadier General Osama Mohammed Khair Atikah was appointed commander of internal security in Damascus Governorate, and Brigadier General Hussam Mamoun Al-Tahhan was appointed commander of the Damascus countryside.
Brigadier General Shaher Jabr Omran was also appointed in Daraa, Brigadier General Marhaf Khaled Al-Naasan in Homs, Brigadier General Mulham Mahmoud Al-Aliwi Al-Shantoot in Hama, and Brigadier General Abdul Aziz Hilal Al-Ahmad in Latakia.
In addition to Brigadier General Mohammed Qusay Yousef al-Nasser in Quneitra, Brigadier General Ahmed Haitham al-Dalati in Sweida, and Brigadier General Ghassan Mohammed Bakir in Idlib, there are also Colonel Mohammed Jumaa Abdul-Ghani in Aleppo, Colonel Abdul-Al Mohammed Abdul-Al in Tartous, and Colonel Dharar Abdul-Razzaq al-Shamlan in Deir ez-Zor.
The appointments did not include the provinces of Hasakah and Raqqa (northeast), which are occupied by the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.
The appointments also included six assistants to the Minister of Interior: Mohamed Hossam Ramez Al-Sheikh Fattouh for Human Resources Affairs, Ahmed Mohamed Amin Haffar for Technical Affairs, Brigadier General Basem Abdel Hamid Al-Mansour for Administrative and Legal Affairs, and Brigadier General Ziad Fawaz Al-Ayesh for Civil Affairs.
Major General Ahmed Mohamed Lattouf was appointed Assistant Minister of Interior for Police Affairs, and Major General Abdel Qader Tahan was appointed for Security Affairs.
In December 2024, Syrian factions completed their control of the country, ending 61 years of Ba'ath regime rule, including 53 years under the Assad family. On January 29, 2025, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of Ahmad al-Sharaa as president for a transitional period scheduled to last five years.
