The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities explained that gas discoveries in the past few years have been quite large, but have been hampered by distribution infrastructure considering that most of the gas discoveries are in eastern Indonesia, while demand is centered in western Indonesia.
"We have many gas reserves, but in eastern Indonesia, how do we turn the gas reserves into production and send them to end users in Java and Sumatra," said Vice President of Commercialization of SKK Migas Ufo Budiarius Anwar in Jakarta, Friday.
Ufo said that gas has become one of the energy sources that is increasingly in demand. Although it is a fossil-based energy source, gas is considered cleaner.
This is what makes natural gas consumption almost certain to continue to increase in line with the government's energy transition strategy. Moreover, the discovery of oil and gas reserves in recent years has been dominated by gas.
Unfortunately, there are still a number of challenges faced in utilizing this gas. There is a fairly large gap between the location or source of supply and the location of demand . For that, various distribution or supply methods must be prepared , both pipeline gas and beyond pipelines such as LNG.
