The US Secretary of State will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, who said that "NATO's core values of peace and stability are under unprecedented threat in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine."
In his opening remarks on Wednesday at a dinner hosted in honor of NATO foreign ministers participating in the alliance's informal meeting, Fidan explained that Thursday's meeting will be an important opportunity for intensive consultations ahead of the Hague summit scheduled for next June.
He described NATO as "the most successful alliance in human history," as its strength comes not only from its collective military might, but more importantly, from its representation of a community of shared values, principles, and ideas.
He stressed the importance of Thursday's meeting, as the fundamental values of peace and stability that NATO stands for are under unprecedented threat in places like Ukraine and Gaza. The Turkish foreign minister emphasized that "our strongest assets to confront these challenges are our unity and solidarity."
Antalya will host an informal meeting of foreign ministers from NATO's 32 member states on Wednesday and Thursday.
