The West Kalimantan Provincial Government has expressed its readiness to export 1,000 tons of premium rice to Sarawak, Malaysia, as part of strengthening food security and optimizing agricultural production in border areas.
"This export is proof of West Kalimantan's success in achieving a premium rice surplus, as well as a real contribution to regional food security in the ASEAN region. West Kalimantan has successfully recorded a surplus of around 1,400 tons of premium rice and we are ready to export 1,000 tons to Malaysia in July or August 2025," said West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan in his statement in Pontianak, Thursday.
He added that this step is in line with the direction of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for regions to strengthen food security as part of the national strategy.
West Kalimantan, he continued, has implemented two strategic food security programs involving defense and security institutions.
"The rice farming program is implemented together with Kodam XII/Tanjungpura, while corn development is the responsibility of the West Kalimantan Regional Police. Both have shown very positive results," he said.
