While carrying out a mission," the Israeli army claims that a soldier was killed and three others were injured in a traffic accident in the occupied Golan Heights

"Sergeant Niv Diag, 19, a soldier in the 890th Paratroopers Brigade, was killed in a traffic accident while carrying out a mission in the Golan Heights," the army said in a statement on its X platform on Friday.

He added, "Two soldiers from the 890th Paratroopers Brigade's Battalion and a soldier from the 474th Golan Heights Regiment headquarters were lightly injured in the same incident."

The statement continued: "The soldiers were evacuated to receive treatment at the hospital," while "the commander of the Central Command, Major General Avi Blot, and the commander of the Northern Command, Major General Uri Gordin, appointed a team of experts to investigate the incident."

The occupation army did not announce any details about the "military mission" the soldiers were carrying out, as it put it.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. It exploited the new situation in the country following the fall of the Syrian regime, occupying the Syrian buffer zone and declaring the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.

It also occupied the strategic Mount Hermon, which is only 35 km from the capital, Damascus. It lies between Syria and Lebanon, overlooks Israel, and can also be seen from Jordan.

Although the new Syrian administration, headed by Ahmad al-Sharaa, has not threatened Israel in any way, Tel Aviv has been launching airstrikes on Syria on an almost daily basis for months, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.
