"eight missiles were launched from Iran towards Israeli territory."
Israel Hayom newspaper reported that only two rockets fell in open areas, one of them inside a settlement in the northern occupied West Bank.
The channel did not specify the location of the other missile, nor did it mention whether the remaining missiles were shot down or fell in other locations.
For its part, the Israeli ambulance service, Magen David Adom, said that four Israelis sustained minor injuries while heading to shelters when the sirens sounded.
This is Iran's second strike on Israel in less than 24 hours. On Tuesday morning, it launched dozens of missiles, one of which struck a building in the greater Tel Aviv area, wounding five Israelis, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
In turn, the private Israeli Channel 12 quoted an unnamed security source as saying that "the American THAAD air defense system participated in the operation to intercept the Iranian missiles."
Later, the Israeli occupation army said in a brief statement: "After assessing the situation, the Home Front Command issued instructions indicating the possibility of leaving the shelters."
Meanwhile, air raid sirens sounded across large areas of Israel on Tuesday evening after missile launches from Iran were detected.
The Israeli occupation army said in a post on the X platform that "air raid sirens were activated in several areas within the country after missiles were detected launched from Iran towards the territory of the State of Israel."
"Meanwhile, the Air Force is working to intercept the missiles and carry out attacks wherever required to eliminate the threat," he added.
The army sent a message to Israelis urging them to continue adhering to the Home Front Command's instructions, noting that "the defense is not fully secured."
In a related development, two US officials confirmed on Tuesday that American ships had intervened to intercept Iranian missiles heading towards Israel.
The two officials told NBC News that the US ships were used to defend against Iranian missiles, alongside ground-based interception systems.
The two officials, whose identities were not revealed, noted that overall US involvement was relatively low.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously told Fox News that "American pilots are shooting down Iranian drones heading toward Israel."
He added, "American ships equipped with the Aegis combat system, capable of launching ballistic missiles, are also present in the Mediterranean."
Since dawn on Friday, Israel, with US support, has launched an aggression against Iran, bombing nuclear facilities and missile bases, and assassinating military leaders and nuclear scientists, leaving 224 dead and 1,277 wounded. Tehran has responded with ballistic missiles and drones, leaving approximately 24 dead and hundreds wounded.
Tel Aviv and Tehran consider each other their arch-enemies, and Israel's current aggression against Iran is the most extensive of its kind, representing a transition from a "shadow war" of bombings and assassinations to an open military conflict.
