Benfica coach Bruno Lage said the victory against German giants Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup was not due to him or one player alone, but rather the teamwork of the entire team.
Benfica inflicted Bayern's first defeat in the Club World Cup after winning 1-0 in their final Group C match at the Bank of America Stadium, North Carolina, on Wednesday WIB. Benfica's only goal was scored by Andreas Schjelderup in the 13th minute.
"It's teamwork. I think it's teamwork," Lage was quoted as saying on FIFA's official website on Wednesday.
Lage then added that this victory was also created after learning from previous experience, when they were defeated 0-1 by Bayern in the Champions League in November 2024.
"But we've played against Bayern before," Lage said. "And you know how difficult it is to play against them, so we learned from that game, but more importantly, what we're going to do with the ball. And I think we did it very well," he added.
"When we had time to attack quickly, we did. But when we had time to control the game with the ball and run, we did," he continued.
