Commission II: Islands in Indonesia may not be traded by foreigners

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives Dede Yusuf emphasized that islands in Indonesian territory may not be bought and sold by foreigners, except for building use rights or business use rights.

"Islands in Indonesia are prohibited from being bought and sold by foreigners, except for building use rights or business use rights. This means that foreigners are not allowed to own land in Indonesia, except to rent it for a certain period of time," Dede said in a statement received.

He conveyed this in response to the issue of four islands in the Anambas Islands Regency which were allegedly sold via a foreign online site.

"After yesterday there was a controversy over the ownership of four islands between Aceh and North Sumatra. Suddenly there are people easily selling islands in Indonesia through the site," he said.
