Persija Jakarta striker Gustavo Almeida is determined to bring the Kemayoran Tigers to become champions of the Indonesian League 1 after getting a contract extension for the next two years plus an option for a one-year contract extension.
"My target next season is to be a champion. I have to do my best to help my team," said Gustavo through an official statement from Persija, Tuesday.
Persija said the contract extension was inseparable from the Brazilian striker's sharp performance this season, after scoring 18 goals in 28 matches.
Gustavo's goal record, said Persija, could even be higher this season if he had not been hampered by playing due to serving sanctions from the PSSI Disciplinary Committee (Komdis) and being hit by injuries.
Of the 18 goals, he scored a hat-trick twice, namely when hosting Barito Putera on August 10 with a score of 3-0 and when winning 3-1 against PSS Sleman on December 21.
