Permission to replace the Kaaba's Kiswa

Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region and Vice Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah, handed over the Kiswa (cover) of the Kaaba to the custodians of the Holy House of God.

The handover documents were signed by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, and the Chief Custodian of the Holy House of God, Abdulmalik bin Taha Al-Shaibi, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The handover ceremony marks the replacement of the Kaaba's Kiswa on the first of Muharram 1447 AH, after the Authority completed manufacturing the new Kiswa for this year at the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Kaaba Kiswa, using natural silk dyed black.

The dress is 14 metres high, and in its upper third is a belt 95 centimetres wide and 47 metres long, made up of 16 pieces surrounded by a square of Islamic decorations.

The handover ceremony is part of the preparations and stages for replacing the Kaaba's Kiswa, scheduled for the beginning of the next Hijri year.
