"We express our determination to recognize the State of Palestine and call on those who have not yet done so to join us," Barrow said via the X platform.
France's call came in the wake of the "New York Call," which was launched at the conclusion of a high-level ministerial conference at UN headquarters, dedicated to discussing ways to revive the two-state solution and support the process of international recognition of a Palestinian state.
Earlier on Monday, the ministerial conference kicked off at the United Nations headquarters, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
On Tuesday evening, the two-state solution conference held in New York called for Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and its handover to the Palestinian Authority "based on the principle of one government, one law, one weapon."
In its final statement, the conference emphasized the importance of recognizing the State of Palestine and granting it full membership in the United Nations. It also affirmed "the need for an immediate end to the war in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces."
He called for opening the crossings, allowing aid to enter, and lifting the blockade on Gaza. He called for "Palestinian reforms, including elections within a year, and strengthening governance and security." The statement emphasized that "the reconstruction of Gaza will be supported by an international fund and through a reconstruction conference to be held soon in Cairo."
Israel and its ally, the United States, rejected the conference. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said it could "prolong the war." The spokeswoman also criticized France's decision to recognize the State of Palestine, noting that it "appealed to Hamas," and affirmed Washington's rejection of the decision.
The "International Palestine Conference" was scheduled to be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York from June 17 to 20. However, following the Israeli attacks on Iran, which began on June 13 with US support and continued for 12 days, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the postponement of the conference.
Both Israel and its ally, the United States, have expressed their rejection of holding a conference to support the two-state solution.
Israel, with US support, has been waging a war of extermination in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide, with American support, left more than 205,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that claimed the lives of many.
