The Indonesian Professional Footballers Association or APPI hopes that the regulation on foreign players in the Super League, which is the new branding of Liga 1, will be reviewed after the President Director of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) Ferry Paulus stipulated that each club is allowed to register 11 foreign players from any country.
In fact, APPI admitted that they do not have a problem with the regulation of foreign players in the Super League next season, but they emphasized that if there is no fair competition and lots of competition, it will have a bad impact on the fate of local players.
"We deeply regret that the regulation that will directly impact the players' lives was taken without any prior communication and discussion with the players," wrote the official statement from APPI, quoted on Tuesday.
"From the survey we conducted, the majority of League 1 players object to the regulation because it will directly reduce their playing time, because currently there is only 1 professional competition running," added the official statement.
When delivering the results of the annual and extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPS) of PT LIB at the Langham Hotel, South Jakarta, Monday night, Ferry said that the regulations for foreign players for the highest caste next season had changed because they had increased.
Later, from the 11 players who can be registered, each club can only include eight players in the player list and play directly in one match. This policy changes the regulation in the previous season, where each club was allowed to use eight foreign players, with only six players allowed to play in one match.
