Apple has reportedly begun trial production of its latest generation iPhone 17 in India, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to diversify manufacturing beyond China.
Gizmochina reported on Monday (July 14th) that production will take place in South India, giving India a larger role in the supply chain for the next-generation iPhone. This news was first reported by the Economic Times, which stated that Apple has been testing and developing the iPhone 17 through Foxconn in India.
As a manufacturing company, Foxconn is the largest contract manufacturer in Apple's supply chain.

Apple has now begun importing components from China to produce not only the iPhone 17 but also other phones. It is reported that 90 percent of these components are for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16, while only 10 percent are for the iPhone 17.
This move also appears to demonstrate Apple's plan to boost sales of its devices during the upcoming festival season in India. With deals and promotional sales, the company is targeting strong sales in August 2025.
Referring to Apple's habit of launching its phones, the iPhone 17 series will be introduced through a launch event in September 2025.
